Obsidian Obsidian 1.15.1 Desktop (Early access) (2026-11-03) (Prerelease)

Obsidian adds relevance-based search sorting, accent-folding for a dozen languages, and instant workspace display on startup︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Obsidian's search now has a Relevance sort option that ranks notes by best match for your query.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Search and search filters in Backlinks, Outline, and Bookmarks now ignore accents (so `cafe` finds `café`), and search folds special characters for German, French, Danish, Norwegian, Polish, Croatian, Serbian, Vietnamese, Icelandic, Faroese, Maltese, Turkish, and Azerbaijani (so `lodz` finds `Łódź` and `strasse` finds `Straße`).
• The workspace now appears immediately on startup, with progress shown in the status bar instead of a loading screen.
• Turn the ribbon on or off for new vaults via Settings → Interface → Show ribbon.
• Settings → Files and links → Allow URI callbacks and Settings → Web viewer → Homepage and Search engine are now device-level settings instead of syncing with the vault.
• Vaults shared via Sync no longer sync main settings, appearance, themes, snippets, or hotkeys by default when first connected.
• Holding Ctrl or Cmd while picking a vault from the vault profile menu in the sidebar now replaces the current window instead of opening a new one.
• The `obsidian://new` URI now appends to a heading when a heading is specified but no `append` or `prepend` parameter is given, instead of showing an error.
• The CLI's `eval` command now supports top-level `await`, for example `eval code="await app.vault.adapter.list('/')"` .
• Community plugin settings that arrived with a shared vault before the plugin was installed are now preserved as `data.json.bak` instead of being applied.
Breaking changes:
• Settings → Files and links → Allow URI callbacks is now a per-device setting and no longer syncs with the vault — if you use URI callbacks, turn it on again on each device.
• Settings → Web viewer → Homepage and Search engine are now per-device settings and no longer sync with the vault.
• Vaults shared via Sync no longer sync main settings, appearance, themes, snippets, or hotkeys by default when first connected.
• Deleting a file now shows an error when it cannot be moved to the system trash, instead of silently moving it to the vault's `.trash` folder (the CLI's `delete` command is unaffected).
• Community plugin settings that arrived with a shared vault before the plugin was installed are no longer applied; they are saved as `data.json.bak` instead.
• `Array#contains` and `String#contains` are deprecated — use `includes` instead.
• `FileManager#trashFile` and `FileManager#promptForDeletion` now resolve to `false` when the file could not be moved to the system trash.
• Plugin developers should use `window.setTimeout` instead of `activeWindow.setTimeout`, whose timers never fire once their pop-out window closes.

Obsidian Obsidian 1.15.1 Mobile (Early access) (2026-11-03) (Prerelease)

Obsidian Mobile 1.15.1 adds a Web viewer core plugin, a View note home screen widget for Android, and an Obsidian tile for iOS Quick Capture widgets.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Obsidian Mobile now includes the Web viewer core plugin; with 'Open external links' turned on in its settings, links to web pages open in an in-app browser that slides up over your note.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Android now has a View note home screen widget that shows the contents of a note, replacing the Open note widget.
• iOS adds an Obsidian tile to the Quick Capture home screen widgets, with the small widget now showing up to 4 tiles in a 2×2 grid.
• (improved) Home screen widgets and quick settings tiles now let you pick a vault and note from a list instead of typing their names, the `New note` widget and quick settings tile can now create unique notes, and the `New note` and `Daily note` widgets and quick settings tiles can now open notes in a new tab.
• Each vault in the Manage vaults screen now shows where it is stored, file count, Sync vault status, and community plugins before you open it.
• (improved) iOS voice capture now starts a new line when you pause speaking for 2 seconds, and adds a 'Save Audio File' toggle in settings (off by default) to also keep the audio recording alongside the transcript.
• Signing up for an account on mobile now opens in a sheet that slides up from the bottom.
• Obsidian now starts faster in vaults with large hidden folders such as `.git`.
Breaking changes:
• The 'Sliding sidebars' setting has been removed.
• The `slidingSidebar` config option has been removed.
• Settings → Files and links → Deleted files no longer offers 'Move to system trash'; deleted files always go to the `.trash` folder.
• iOS voice capture 'Save Audio File' is now off by default; audio files are no longer saved unless you turn this on.

Obsidian Obsidian 1.15 Desktop (Public) (2026-11-02)

Obsidian adds URI/CLI commands to append or prepend content under a heading, reorderable Bases filters, and a new Mermaid rendering library with theme-matched colors︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Append or prepend content to a specific heading via URI and CLI using new commands that also control line breaks around the inserted content.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Obsidian now renders Mermaid diagrams using a new library called Pele, compatible with Mermaid 12.1.0 syntax, with `--mermaid-*` CSS variables for colors, corner radius, and font weights, and `.pele-*` element classes.
• Bases now supports dragging to reorder filters and a per-filter-row menu to add filters or move them between 'All views' and 'This view'.
• Mermaid diagrams in notes are now shown without a prompt, are responsive to note width, and can be zoomed and panned when scaled down.
• Bases search now reports when a result limit hides matches, for example 'Showing 10 of 40'.
• Suggestions in link suggestions, Quick switcher, Command palette, and Bases search now ignore diacritics so 'cafe' matches 'café'.
• Vim mode now supports `g?`, `:put`, search patterns in `:` ranges such as `:/foo/,/bar/d`, Vim-style regexes with `:set nopcre`, and `<A-…>` mappings on macOS.
• Formula fields in Bases can now be resized up to the width of the window.
Breaking changes:
• The 'Show Mermaid diagrams in notes' setting has been removed; diagrams are now always rendered.
• Obsidian no longer bundles the Mermaid library; loadMermaid() and `window.mermaid` now draw with Pele and the SVG output carries Pele's `.pele-*` classes instead of Mermaid's. Plugins matching full node names like `formatting-code_inline-code` will miss closing tokens and must match `formatting-code` instead.
• The `PIXI` global is now loaded on first graph open rather than at start-up; use loadPixi() to load it earlier.

• Tab switcher now lets tabs be dragged from one tab group to another.

Obsidian changelog-20261028-3b73e656

Obsidian 1.15.0 adds voice capture with transcription on iOS, PDF export on mobile, new URI/CLI heading commands, and Mermaid via Pele.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Adds `append` and `prepend` URI/CLI commands to add content under a specific heading, with control over line breaks around the added content.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Introduces the new `Pele` library for rendering Mermaid diagrams (compatible with Mermaid 12.1.0 syntax, with theme-matched colors/fonts, responsive sizing, and zoom/pan when scaled down), adds `--mermaid-*` CSS variables for colors, corner radius, and font weights plus `.pele-*` classes on diagram elements for custom styling, adds a `loadMermaid()` / `window.mermaid` compatibility shim supporting `initialize()`, `render()`, `parse()`, `mermaidAPI.getConfig()`, and `setConfig()` (with new code able to use `window.pele` once `loadMermaid()` resolves), and adds `loadPixi()` for loading the `PIXI` global before the first graph opens.
• Adds closing formatting tokens a `cm-formatting-*-end` class (e.g. `cm-formatting-strong-end`) in Live Preview, matching the existing `cm-formatting-link-end` and `cm-formatting-highlight-end`.
• Supports voice capture and real-time transcription on iOS 26, including from the Lock Screen, with recordings saved directly to the vault.
• Adds Quick Capture as a Spotlight action and Siri shortcut (e.g. 'Open Quick Capture in Obsidian'); setting Note Title to 'Automatic' uses the first 80 characters of the capture as the title.
• Adds PDF export for notes on mobile.
• Removes the 'Show Mermaid diagrams in notes' setting — diagrams now always render since Pele cannot execute code.
• Bases: adds dragging to reorder filters and a per-filter-row menu to add filters or move them between 'All views' and 'This view', shows a result-limit notice (e.g. 'Showing 10 of 40') when search matches are hidden, and allows Formula fields to be resized up to the width of the window.
• Vim: Adds `g?`, `:put`, search patterns in `:` ranges (e.g. `:/foo/,/bar/d`), Vim-style regexes with `:set nopcre`, and `<A-…>` mappings on macOS.
• Suggestions and search now ignore diacritics/accents, so for example 'cafe' matches 'café' in link suggestions, Quick Switcher, Command Palette, and search, and `prepareFuzzySearch` and `prepareSimpleSearch` now ignore accents on Latin and Greek letters.
Breaking changes:
• The 'Show Mermaid diagrams in notes' setting has been removed — diagrams always render now.
• loadMermaid() and `window.mermaid` now draw with Pele, not the Mermaid library. SVG output carries Pele's `.pele-*` classes instead of Mermaid's classes. Obsidian no longer bundles Mermaid.
• The `PIXI` global is no longer loaded at start-up; it is loaded the first time a graph opens. Use loadPixi() to load it earlier.

Obsidian 1.15.0 adds faster themed Mermaid diagrams via Pele, reorderable Bases filters, and new URI/CLI heading-append commands.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Adds URI/CLI commands to append or prepend content to a heading, with control for line breaks around the appended/prepended content.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Replaces the Mermaid rendering engine with the new `Pele` library, supporting Mermaid `12.1.0` syntax, theme-matched colors and fonts, responsive sizing, and zoom/pan for scaled-down diagrams with no code-execution sandbox required, and adds `--mermaid-*` CSS variables for colors, corner radius, and font weights to let developers style Mermaid/Pele diagrams.
• Exposes `window.pele` for new code to use once loadMermaid() resolves, and updates loadMermaid() and `window.mermaid` to draw with Pele supporting initialize(), render(), parse(), and mermaidAPI.getConfig(), setConfig(), and render().
• Adds `cm-formatting-*-end` class (e.g. `cm-formatting-strong-end`) to closing formatting tokens in Live Preview, matching the existing `cm-formatting-link-end` and `cm-formatting-highlight-end`.
• Improves Bases: adds dragging to reorder filters and a per-filter menu to add filters or move them between 'All views' and 'This view', indicates when a result limit hides matches in search (e.g. 'Showing 10 of 40'), and allows formula fields to be resized up to the width of the window.
• Updates `prepareFuzzySearch` and `prepareSimpleSearch` to ignore accents on Latin and Greek letters (e.g. `cafe` matches `café`).
• Updates Vim mode with new commands including `g?`, `:put`, search patterns in `:` ranges (e.g. `:/foo/,/bar/d`), Vim-style regexes via `:set nopcre`, and `<A-…>` mappings on macOS.
• Loads the `PIXI` global on first graph open instead of at start-up; exposes loadPixi() to load it earlier.
• Community plugins now load faster when Obsidian starts.
Breaking changes:
• The 'Show Mermaid diagrams in notes' setting has been removed; diagrams now always render via Pele.
• Obsidian no longer bundles Mermaid: loadMermaid() and `window.mermaid` now draw with Pele and their SVG output carries Pele's `.pele-*` classes, not Mermaid's — plugins relying on Mermaid's SVG class names will break.
• The `PIXI` global is no longer loaded at start-up; code that accessed it at startup must now call loadPixi() first.

Obsidian 1.14 adds kanban view for Bases, six highlight colors, and the ability to open individual Markdown files from outside a vault.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Adds the `Open file from outside the vault…` command to open individual Markdown files from anywhere on disk, with image embeds and links resolving relative to the file's folder.︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Obsidian now appears in the OS `Open with` menu and can be set as the default app for `.md` files; macOS gains Quick Look previews for Markdown files even when Obsidian is closed.
• Groups are now collapsible in the table, cards, and list layouts of Bases.
• Adds six highlight colors — triggered by adding a color emoji () at the start of a highlight or via the formatting menu; typing `==` in the editor now suggests highlight colors.
• Live Preview: when the cursor overlaps a highlight, an inline color swatch appears that can be clicked to change the highlight color.
• Adds optional `SettingDefinitionItem#id` to the Settings API for assigning a unique ID to individual settings (developer API).
• Each line of a math block (`$$`) now carries the `.HyperMD-math` class (developer API).
• Math rendering upgrades to MathJax 4.1.3, replacing MathJax 3.

Obsidian: Adds the `Open file from outside the vault...` command, letting you pick and view any file on your computer without adding it to your vault (Desktop only).︀︄︇︀︅︉︀︅︀︀︃︀︀︅︅︀︅︊︀︄︆︀︃︄
• Obsidian now registers in the OS `Open with` menu and can be set as the default app for Markdown files (requires latest installer).
• Kanban: cards can now be moved between folder columns when the view is grouped by `file.folder`.
• Kanban: creating a note in a column now places it in the corresponding folder when the view is grouped by `file.folder`.
• iOS 27: adds support for extra large Quick Capture and View Note home-screen widgets.
• Fuzzy matching in editor link suggestions (`[[`) and the quick switcher is now always used, removing the 10,000-file vault limit that previously forced a simplified algorithm.
• Base font size is no longer saved to `appearance.json` and is instead stored in device local storage, so it no longer syncs via Obsidian Sync.
• All in-app links now route to the localized version of the Obsidian website.
Breaking changes:
• Base font size is no longer stored in `appearance.json` and will not sync via Obsidian Sync; each device now holds its own value in local storage, so synced vaults will lose a shared font-size setting on upgrade.

• Mobile toolbar settings page now shows icons next to each command.
• Improved 'Undo close tab' behavior: tabs reopen in the correct tab group and no longer reuse the active 'New tab' page.
• The startup stats window now shows more granular information about startup speed.
• Removes the URI action approval dialog; Obsidian now relies on guardrails introduced in 1.13 (e.g. Mermaid diagrams off by default) instead.
• `Shift-Tab` now moves focus to the next focusable element instead of staying locked to the current row.
• Sliders in settings now use the accent color.

Obsidian 1.13 adds a searchable Settings panel, full-screen image viewer, new Vim `:image` command, and tightened URI security.
• Settings now open in a new window; disable via `Settings → Interface → Open settings in new window`.
• Adds settings search by name or description, navigable with `Ctrl/Cmd-F` to re-focus; currently covers core settings and core plugins (community plugins can migrate to the new Settings API to appear in results).
• Adds keyboard navigation in Settings: arrow keys to move between items, `Enter` to open a tab, with Vim key binding support.
• New Vim Ex command `:image` to interact with a selected image — supports `:image grow`, `:image shrink`, `:image reset`, and a count prefix (e.g. `:5image grow`).
• New full-screen image viewer: click an image or the Zoom button to open, pan by click-and-drag, and navigate between all images embedded in the current file.
• Live Preview: images can now be selected via keyboard; `Backspace`/`Delete` deletes the selected image, `Ctrl/Cmd-C`/`Ctrl/Cmd-X` copies or cuts it, `+`/`-` resizes, `0` resets size, `Enter` edits the image, and `Tab` manually edits the image size.
• Obsidian URIs now show a confirmation dialog before firing; a per-action allow list is manageable from Settings.
• Adds a warning before loading HTML resources when the source points to a network drive.
• Adds a warning dialog when choosing to sync plugins via Obsidian Sync.
• Reading mode now supports external images with a size but no alt text (e.g. ![200](https://www.path.to/image.png)).
• Note Composer: when extracting a section, links in that section are rewritten to be relative to the new file location.
• Adds support for dragging links from a Base into the File Explorer to move the file to a new location.
• Sync sidebar view gains search, multi-selection (`Shift`-arrow keys or `Alt`-click), drag-into-other-views support, and `Delete`/`Backspace` to delete files.
• Dragging a folder into the desktop app now imports the entire folder and preserves directory structure.
• Adds search to the Bookmarks view.
• Adds a new `ConfirmationModal` component for plugin developers.
• New Interface settings page consolidates several moved settings.
• Adds the ability to exit Restricted Mode without re-enabling plugins, for vault debugging.
• File Recovery view adds keyboard navigation (arrow keys) through file history records.
• Adds a new one-time banner confirming rendering of Mermaid code blocks in the vault.
• The `--callout-color` CSS variable now accepts any valid CSS color value (e.g. `#ff0000`, rgb(255,0,0)) instead of an RGB triplet.
Breaking changes:
• The `--callout-color` CSS variable now expects a valid CSS color (e.g. `#ff0000` or rgb(255,0,0)) instead of a bare RGB triplet (e.g. `255,0,0`); existing theme/snippet overrides using the old format will break.
