State of the Cyber Toolchain, Q3 2026

We can't yet compare any of our 37 categories with their own past, so we are not calling a direction for Q3 2026. The busiest are listed below.

Busiest categories

Most releases in the quarter. This is volume only; it says nothing about direction.

  1. AI/LLM Security: 105 releases across 14 tools
  2. SIEM: 89 releases across 4 tools
  3. General Utilities & Libraries: 88 releases across 28 tools
  4. Post-Exploitation: 86 releases across 30 tools
  5. Secrets Detection & Management: 78 releases across 16 tools

How we counted

We count each tool's published releases per quarter and compare the latest quarter with the usual pace of the four before it. A category is named only if it has at least 3 tools and 8 releases, and moved up 50% or down 30% or more. We show at most 5. Every sentence is filled in from those numbers, and a check refuses any number that isn't in them.

If we can't yet compare a category with its own past, we leave its direction out and say so. Data as of 2026-10-31. This edition is fixed once published; any fix is added below with its date.
