Bots - Granular access controls for the top Personal Agents (2026-11-04) commercial

Cloudflare Blog is a publication sharing updates, technical insights, and announcements about Cloudflare's internet security, performance, and developer infrastructure products.

Summary

Cloudflare is a commercial cloud platform that provides content delivery, DDoSDDoSDistributed Denial of Service: an attack that floods a target system with traffic from many sources simultaneously, exhausting its resources so legitimate requests cannot be served. protection, DNS, and serverless application infrastructure through a globally distributed network, run entirely as a hosted service with no infrastructure for customers to manage. Its documentation targets application developers and platform teams building on primitives like Workers, D1, R2, and Workers AI, while a parallel product line, Cloudflare One, serves network and security teams migrating off VPNsVPNsA virtual private network, an encrypted tunnel between devices or networks. It carries traffic across another network as though the endpoints had a private connection. and vendors like Zscaler or Palo Alto Networks onto Cloudflare's Access and Tunnel equivalents. It also ships email-authentication tooling — DMARC, SPFSPFAn email authentication standard that lets a domain owner publish, via DNS, which mail servers are authorized to send on its behalf, so receiving servers can reject spoofed senders., and DKIMDKIMAn email authentication standard that lets a sending mail server cryptographically sign outgoing messages so receiving servers can verify the signature was not forged or tampered with in transit. monitoring with threat-intelligence lookups on sending IPs — putting it alongside DNS security and email-security products, and increasingly wires AI agents directly into deployment and configuration workflows via MCPMCPModel Context Protocol, a standard for connecting AI applications to external tools and data sources. A compatible server exposes capabilities an assistant can use through a common interface. servers and skill files. Founded in 2010, it releases continuously, with the most recent update 17 days ago.

How Cloudflare helps

Which sending IP behind a DMARC failure is actually worth worrying about?

pulls the sending source into an Investigate tab showing Cloudflare's own threat intelligence on that IP — reputation, geolocation, ASN, and known threat associations — instead of just a pass/fail row

Is our SPF record about to break because of nested includes?

traces every DNS lookup the record incurs, including chains pulled in through nested includes, and flags when the count is approaching or has crossed the RFC 7208 10-lookup limit

Which of our email domains are actually protected right now?

shows one dashboard with pass/warning/fail status for DMARC, SPF, DKIM, and BIMI per domain, with plain-language remediation for each failing one

Which of our existing VPN applications map to which Cloudflare primitive, and in what order should we cut them over?

inventories the current VPN applications, assigns each one to Access, Tunnel, or Mesh, and produces a deployment sequence built to minimize disruption during cutover

Can our Zscaler Private Access policies move to Cloudflare without re-entering everything by hand?

translates existing Zscaler application definitions, user groups, and policies directly into Cloudflare Access equivalents using the same logic as Cloudflare's own migration programs

What happens to a multi-step Workflow if one step fails partway through?

runs each step's rollback handler in reverse order back through the steps that already completed, passing it the persisted output (or undefined if the step never got that far) so compensation logic can run safely

Lines in monospace are the tool's own words: help text parsed from its source, or an endpoint from its API document. Under release, a line is our summary of a dated release. Under docs, it is quoted from the tool's own documentation or website. Each links back to the source it came from.

Command line

24 commands for Cloudflare, each with where it came from. This tool has no source analysis yet, so there is no option reference and no captured run beside them.

Score card

  1. Shipping velocity releases a month, last 12 months
  2. Documentation quality release-notes rubric, 0–100
  3. Breaking-change discipline how rarely a release breaks users, and notice given
  4. Maintenance risk quiet time against its own cadence, maintainers
  5. Innovation & surface new capabilities, API and MCP surface

Five scores for Cloudflare, each built from the releases, notes and API history this site tracks — and, on Researcher and Business, where it stands among every measured tool in its category and how that has moved.

Score cards are part of every paid plan.

See plans →

Each score is 0–100 on a published rubric, derived from data this site already shows. A dimension we cannot measure says so — it is never scored 0 and never enters a rank.

How this is scored
  • Shipping velocity — releases a month over the last 12 months, on a log scale where 16 a month scores 100. Needs 3 releases in the window.
  • Documentation quality — the release-notes rubric published on the analytics page, unchanged.
  • Breaking-change discipline — the share of releases carrying a breaking change (none scores 100, half or more scores 0). Only projects that label breaking changes are measured: a clean record cannot be told from an unlabelled one.
  • Maintenance risk — quiet time measured against the tool's own release cadence (quiet longer than 90 days and three typical gaps scores 0), plus the number of active maintainers and whether contributors are growing, where known. Higher is lower risk.
  • Innovation & surface — new capabilities in the feature ledger this year, API and MCP operations added, and the share of commits that are features: the mean of whichever we hold.
  • Community health (open-source tools only) — each is a direction, not a size: contributors this year against last, the bus factor now against a year ago, and issues closed per issue opened, where steady scores 50, doubled 100 and halved 0; plus the median time to a maintainer's first reply (an hour scores about 100, a month or more 0). A commercial card has no repository and carries none of the four.
  • Documented delivery (commercial tools) — when a vendor's documented new capabilities have slowed against its own baseline, that counts against the overall standing as heavily as two low dimensions. Steady delivery, or too little history to judge, leaves the standing alone; it is never a sixth score.
  • Open-source tools are scored on repository signals; commercial tools on their published changelog. Ranks compare tools within one category and one profile and need at least five measured peers; the overall standing needs three ranked dimensions. Best-in-breed or consolidator is a shape, not a quality, and is never scored.

Release-note detail over time

See how much detail Cloudflare puts in its release notes, quarter by quarter, and compare it with tracked tools in the same category. This history uses up to ten retained, reviewed notes per tool; sparse or blank older quarters may reflect that limit.

How we count

Read from 56 of 1276 release notes and docs updates we hold for Cloudflare. "First seen" is the earliest note that names something; "last" is the latest. Our history may start partway through Cloudflare's life, so an old integration can show a recent first-seen date.

Each change counts once: "added 40 checks" is one line, so the numbers measure how often coverage moves, not how big the catalogue is or how well it detects.
